On August 2, 2013 I sent my two sons on a weekend visitation with their dad in Southwestern Indiana. On August 3rd, the boys were allowed to play in the Wabash River. Luke and Jonathan both were swept off the boat dock they were playing on and landed on a rock wall about 6 feet from the boat dock. Jonathan and Luke tried swimming back, but Luke was unable to make it and drowned.
Their dad pulled Luke out as First Responders arrived, and Luke was taken to the local hospital. After 45 minutes, the emergency room personnel were able to get a heartbeat again and Luke was flown to Evansville, IN and put in the PICU. After several precarious hours there, Luke was then flown to Louisville's Kosair Children's Hospital where he died on August 5, 2013 at 8:38 in the morning.
